How do I use the bottle?

Super easy. Just fill, replace lid and drink. To drink, sip/suck water through the filter. Avoid excessive squeezing. The filter purifies water as you drink. No pumping, iodine tablets or chemicals required.

I am not getting much water out of the bottle.

If you are unfamiliar with water filter bottles, the flow rate is slower than regular water bottles. This just means the filter is doing its job of removing contaminants as you draw water through the filter.

What does the filter remove?

If there is something unsafe in your water, the Water-to-Go filter likely removes it. The filter removes up to 99.9999% of illness-causing contaminants, including those as small as a virus. (Most filter bottles do not remove viruses such as hepatitis.) In lab tests the filter has removed even the smallest of viruses like polio, which can be as small as .03 microns. The filter also removes bacteria, parasites (including giardia), chemicals (including chlorine, fluoride, PFAS “forever chemicals”), pesticides and nitrates, heavy metals (lead, arsenic, chromium) and microplastics. The Water-to-Go filter has been proven in four independent lab tests on four continents and by over 500,000 customers around the world over the last decade.

How does the filter remove so many contaminants?

The filter combines physical, chemical, and electropositive filtration. Picture a nanofiber mesh made with activated carbon where each nanofiber strand has millions of tiny hairs that reach into the tiny pores of the mesh. Each of those tiny hairs carries a positive charge. Most contaminants naturally have a negative charge, so the contaminants that are not blocked by the tiny pores or trapped by the activated carbon are attracted to the positive charge and captured by those tiny hairs. Think of the filter as your favorite black shirt and the contaminants as that white sock or lint stuck to your shirt when it comes out of the dryer.

What set-up is required?

Before first use, fill the bottle to submerge the filter for 15 minutes. That’s it. You are good to go. If used regularly, the filter only needs to be activated once. You do not need to activate the filter every time you use the bottle. If your filter dries out completely (usually because it has sat unused for several weeks), just reactivate by submerging the filter for 15 minutes and your bottle will be ready for use.

What if I experience a leak?

If you detect a leak, there are two likely reasons. The lid probably needs to be tightened a bit. Give it a gentle extra twist. Or the bottle is being squeezed excessively, forcing water through the breather valve on the lid. Gently suck to pull water through the filter. Don’t squeeze excessively.

What if I don’t use the bottle for a while? Does filter life degrade?

In general, filter life is determined by use, not time. So if your bottle sits on a shelf for months and the filter dries out, just fill the bottle to submerge the filter for 15 minutes. That’s it. You are good to go.

How long does the filter last?

25oz/75cl filters, found in all Active (25oz/75cl and 20oz/60cl) bottles, BioPlastic bottles, and Classic bottles:

- Filters 200 liters/53 gallons depending on use. For example, if you are filtering water with heavy silt or sediment, filter life will decrease.
- Replaces 400 single-use plastic bottles
- In general, you can fill up the bottle at a tap 2-3 times a day and the 75cl filter will last for 3 months.

17oz/50cl filters, found in some Go! bottles:

- Filters 130 liters/34 gallons depending on use.
- Replaces 260 single use plastic bottles
- In general, you can fill up the 18oz/50cl water purifier bottle 3-4 times a day, every day and the filter will last 2 months.

As filter life comes to an end, the flow rate of the filter will slow, giving you a signal that it is time for the filter to be replaced.

How do I know when the filter needs to be replaced?

As filter life comes to an end, the flow rate of the filter will slow noticeably. This is the filter giving you a signal that you should replace the filter soon.

What is the bottle made of?

Water-to-Go Active, Classic and Go bottles are made of FDA-approved BPA-free plastic.
Water-to-Go BioPlastic bottles are made from ethically harvested sugarcane (except the lid and filter shroud). The sugarcane bottle is produced with 60% less energy and 40% less greenhouse gasses than regular plastic bottles.

All Water-to-Go bottles are fully recyclable. The filter itself is compostable.

Does the bottle come with a filter?

Yes, all Water-to-Go bottles come with a large 25oz/75cl filter attached to the lid.

Where can I buy replacement filters?

You can buy replacement filters at watertogousa.com and on Amazon.

Can it filter salt water?

No. Fresh water only.

Can I use this bottle to fill a glass or pot?

Water-to-Go bottles are designed to purify water as your drink. They are not designed to fill another vessel. You can easily get water from the bottle to brush your teeth but filling a glass or pot is not recommended.

Can the bottles go in the dishwasher?

Dishwasher safe: Active bottles, BioPlastic bottles, and Classic bottles
Not dishwasher safe: Go! 18oz/50cl bottle and lid are hand wash only.
But the filter is NOT dishwasher safe. In all cases, please remove the filter before cleaning.

Can I custom-brand Water-to-Go bottles for my organization?

Yes. We can make custom bottles using your logo. We have done this for several large organizations and charities able to guarantee a large initial order to cover the design costs of putting your logo on a Water-to-Go bottle. For more information please contact [email protected]

Where are you based and what is the bottle made of?

Water-to-Go North America is headquartered in Florida. The materials in the filters are US-made. Active, Classic and Go bottles are created from US-made, BPA-free, FDA-approved plastic and are manufactured in China. The bioplastic bottles are made from sustainably-sourced sugarcane and are manufactured in the UK.

Is Water-to-Go new?

Water-to-Go is a ten year old British company with over 500,000 happy customers around the globe. Our mission is to protect people and the planet by providing pure water, anywhere, free of single-use plastics that pollute our planet. A better bottle for a better world. Over the last decade, Water-to-Go filters have replaced over 165 million single-use plastic bottles that would otherwise be filling up landfills, littering beaches and floating in the ocean. Water-to-Go was recently introduced to the US and Canada.

How do I know when the filter needs to be replaced?

Each 26oz (75cl) filter is designed to provide 53 gallons (200 liters) of pure water. In practical terms, you can fill the bottle 2-3 times a day every day and the filter will last for 3 months. When your filter needs to be replaced you will notice a decline in flow rate.

If I don’t use my bottle everyday will it still only last for 2-3 months?

If you stop using your filter and it dries out completely, just soak the filter for 10-15 minutes to reactivate it. The filter will provide 53 gallons (200) liters of pure water even if you don't use it every day.

How does the filter work?

Does the filter remove lead? Chlorine? Fluoride?

Yes, yes and yes. Independent lab tests show that Water-to-Go filters reduce the amount of chlorine in the water to below detectable levels. You can taste the difference. You can see our testing results here.

Do you have testing reports?

Four independent labs confirm Water-to-Go removes up to 99.9999% of contaminants, including viruses. See our lab results here.

What do I do with used filters?

The filter shroud is recycable. The filter is compostable.

Is the Active bottle dishwasher safe?

Yes. But remove the filter first.

How do I activate the filter?

It is important you activate the filter before first use. The filter must be wet thoroughly to activate the filter technology. We suggest the first time you use a new filter to fill the bottle up and turn it upside down, submerging the filter for a minimum of 15 minutes. Watch the short video below to see how to activate your filter.

What should I do with the filters once I have finished with them?

The Water-to-Go filters are 100% recyclable so you can dispose of them sustainably. The casing and end caps can go in your plastic recycling, and the gray membrane can then go on your compost heap to biodegrade.

How does the Water-to-Go work?

Clean water free of single-use plastic does not require expensive technology. It does not require reverse osmosis or pumps or UV light or chemicals.  Water-to-Go developed an affordable filter that removes up to 99.9999% of contaminants, including contaminants as small as a virus.  The filter does this by combining physical, chemical and electropositive filtration technology. Picture a nanofiber mesh made with activated carbon where each nanofiber strand has millions of tiny hairs that reach into the tiny pores of the mesh. Yes. We can make custom bottles using your logo. We have done this for several large organizations and charities able to guarantee a large initial order to cover the design costs of putting your logo on a Water-to-Go bottle. For more information please contact [email protected]

Are Water-to-Go products BPA-free?

Yes. All the product components (bottles, lids and filters) are BPA free and all materials used are approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. Our core guiding principles are to protect people and the planet.

Can I put my bottle in the dishwasher?

The 26oz/75cl bottles are dishwasher safe (bottle only – lid is hand wash only). The 18oz/50cl bottle and lid are hand wash only. In all cases, please ensure you remove the filter before cleaning.

What is the pore size of the filter (in microns)?

When we talk about pore size we refer back to standard technology. The mechanical restriction of the size of the pores has been the traditional measure of what a filter will eliminate. This is not the case with Water-to-Go. We have a unique combination of three technologies, each performs individually but it is the combination that makes us unique. We have a combination of two nano technologies, which not only reduce the pore size to 0.7 microns, but also create a positive hydrostatic charge in the membrane which attract and traps even the smallest of viruses like polio (which can be as small as 0.03 microns). Have a look at our testing page to see our tests – testimony to the fact that we achieve substantial results by the combination of technologies rather than depend on just the mechanical calculation via a limited pore size.

What’s the difference between the different size bottles?

The differences are the size of the bottle and the filter life. The 26 oz (75 cl) and 20 oz (60 cl) bottles include a larger filter that is effective for 53 gallons/200 liters (3 months of constant use). That is about 400 single use plastic bottles. The smaller (clear) 17 oz (50 cl) bottles have a smaller filter that is effective for 34 gallons/130 liters (2 months of constant use). That is about 260 single use plastic bottles. There is NO difference with the filter technology – they both eliminate well in excess of 99.9% of all microbiological contaminants from any freshwater source.

The bottles are very compact and should fit in standard backpack side pockets.

The 25 oz (75 cl) Active bottle is 9.5 inches (241 mm) tall and weighs 4.9 ounces (139 g) when empty with dry filter.

The 20oz (60cl) Active bottle is 8.5 inches (216 mm) tall and weighs 3.65 ounces (103 g) when empty with dry filter.

The 25oz (75 cl) Classic bottle is 9 inches (229 mm) tall and weighs 5.45 ounces (154 g) when empty with dry filter.

The 17oz (50 cl) Go! bottle is 8 inches (203 mm) tall and weighs 3.5 ounces (99 g) when empty with dry filter.

Do you have testing reports?

Yes. You can view these on our website, We have been tested on three continents by internationally renowned laboratories in London, Florida, Bangalore and China.

Are these bottles earth-friendly?

By choosing a Water-to-Go bottle you reduce plastic pollution and save resources. Pollution caused by millions of plastic water bottles floating in our oceans damages wildlife and the planetary ecosysytem.

When you consider one of our 75cl filters replaces 400 single-use plastic bottles and one 50cl filter replaces 260 plastic bottles, and we have been in business for about a decade and now have half a million customers globally, it is conservative to say Water-to-Go filters have replaced 165 million single-use plastic bottles that would otherwise be filling up landfills, polluting our beaches and floating in the ocean.

Replacing just one single-use plastic bottle negates a chain of negative environmental impact: less energy used to create the bottle, less greenhouse gasses released producing the bottle, less microplastic killing beneficial plankton that consume carbon dioxide and release oxygen.

Do you filter Chlorine and Fluoride?

Yes. Recent tests show that Water-to-Go filters reduce the amount of chlorine in the water to below detectable levels. Our filters use both alumina nano technology and carbon to filter out fluoride. You can see our testing results here.    You can taste the difference when you drink from a Water-to-Go filtered water bottle.

How do I know when my filter needs replacing?

Filter replacement depends largely on how you use your bottle. For example, the filter in a bottle used to filter chemicals from tap water will last much longer than a filter in a bottle used to filter sediment-laden water from ponds and lakes.

We designed the 18oz/50cl filter to provide 34 gallons (130 liters) of drinking water before replacement and the 26oz/75cl filter to provide 53 gallons (200 liters) before replacement.  After this volume, the water will gradually start to taste and smell as it did before using the Water-to-Go bottle. This is a ‘sensory’ prompt for you to change the filter.

If you have a 18oz/50cl water bottle, and you have set the timer when you began using it, the timer will remind you to replace your filter after two months.

If I don’t use my bottle everyday will it still only last for 2-3 months?

No. The filter is good for 34 gallons (130 liters) when using the 18oz/50cl Water bottle or 53 gallons (200 liters) for the 26oz/75cl water bottle. In practical terms, this means that you can fill up the 18oz/50cl Water bottle 3-4 times a day, every day and the filter will last 2 months. Using the 26oz/75cl water bottle 2-3 times a day the filter will last for 3 months. If you stop using your Water-to-Go filter it will dry out and will need to be re-activated.

To reactivate it just fill the bottle up and turn it upside down, submerging the filter for 15 minutes. Then gently squeeze out the contents until the water runs clear.
